my statement

Space is the chief manifestation of the artist’s reality.

At the core there is the desire to pursue interpretations beyond the artists stated intentions; to give words to the visual experience, is, simply the need of our minds to engage each other via the intermediary of art. Essentially, we need one another to fulfill our identities in the art realm.

Like many of the artist’s I admire, whose work ranges from the minimal to the complicated:
Agnes Martin, Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Sol Lewitt, and Robert Ryman; as well as dark, distinctive motion work of The Brothers Quay, Jiri Barta, Jiri Trnka, Kenneth Anger and Maya Deren; each of these artists can be characterized by reduction in forms to repetitive means; which, in turn, creates a powerful visual presence.

I believe life can often be a dream, yet at the same time, we must live in the waking hours. Whether willing or unwilling, it is the compliment of such ideas and distinctions that foster inspirations and feelings; to understand the abstract through color value and illusory space and to understand the illusion of appearance and emotion is the ultimate goal.

What I offer is not mechanical, impersonal, or solely intellectual. There are many ways to express ideas, personal thoughts, and feelings through senses; to communicate emotions in an instant through a small visual plane. Nonetheless, it is the viewers right to interpret their findings for themselves. Without this freedom, life and art, are not experienced, they are dictated and therefore undermining them on the whole.
